Description

Energy transition, energy systems – Analyst (Boston, Amsterdam, Singapore)

The way energy is sourced and used in the world is rapidly changing as the world prepares to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to almost zero by 2050.  The client tracks the development of the technology and business models underpinning the global energy system. We are looking for an Analyst that can think on a system level in terms of technology and economy and translate those thoughts into models. You could have a background in engineering thermodynamics (preferred), engineering management, or applied mathematics. Affinity or experience with policies and regulations in the energy space is a plus.

As an Analyst you will spend a part of your time conducting interviews with technology developers, identifying and analyzing patents, scientific publications, and financial transactions, and drawing on this work to analyze emerging companies and trends. You will also develop frameworks and models to guide our research and help clients take decision on the direction of their innovation. A thorough understanding of the basic principles of thermodynamics and energy technology, including the relevant physics, chemistry and mechanics are essential. You should like to work in a fast-paced environment where you will be required to rapidly switch between a variety of topics and questions. You should enjoy forming firm and fact-based opinions on new technology and regulations and not be afraid to go against the hype if your analysis tells you to do so.

As an Analyst for the energy transition team, you are required to develop multiple potential future scenarios to solve the problems associated with decarbonizing the entire energy system, including heavy industry, and find creative solutions to those problems. Part of your job is to forewarn clients of viable developments that they have not yet seen.

This position does not involve lab-work; rather it involves building on technical expertise through additional primary and secondary research to identify the best opportunities and biggest risks for clients. It’s a great opportunity to work directly with clients at major companies!

Ideally, we are looking for the position to be based out of Boston, but open to candidates in Amsterdam and Singapore.
