Description

Director of Product Development

Our client is hiring a Director of Product Development to join the team, a CRM system that combines box office ticketing, fundraising, marketing, and staff collaboration, built entirely on the cloud-based Salesforce platform.

This is a senior-level position, reporting to the VP Product, so we’re looking for someone with both product and management experience — you’ll be responsible for leading the Product Development team and making sure we deliver a great final product to our customers.

If you have an interest in the arts and you love product management, we want you to work with us! Their clients are predominantly arts and cultural organizations (theatres, orchestras, dance companies, and museums) that use the platform to run their business. We believe in providing our customers with great technology, as well as the knowledge and expertise to use it to make their organizations successful.

In this role, you’ll…

  • Build and improve a software product that is loved by thousands of people;
  • Work with our leadership team to develop our product roadmap and make dozens of strategic decisions every week;
  • Run daily/weekly team and 1:1 meetings with Product Management, QA Testing, and Engineering to make sure we’re staying on track and meeting our goals;
  • Implement improved processes, policies, and procedures for the team, based on a combination of established best practices, your own past experience, and a healthy amount of experimentation;
  • Oversee logistics for all product releases (schedule dates, approve final release versions, edit release notes content, etc.);
  • Maintain strong relationships with colleagues in other departments (specifically Sales & Marketing, Education, Client Administration, and Implementation Services);
  • Engage directly in product management activities (we’re a small team, so while you’ll be leading the department, it’s likely you’ll also be the product manager for some features at the same time).

Our ideal candidate will have some combination of the following background and skills (but probably not all of them!):

  • Product management experience: You’ve been a product manager (or done equivalent work) for two or more years — you’ve shipped products before, trust your own strong product and UI/UX intuition, and have experience with release management. You think independently, creatively, and strategically, and you’re equally great at communicating your vision to others and listening to different points of view.
  • People-management experience: You’ve managed a team of three or more people, and you’re great at fostering collaboration, enabling individual growth, and cultivating an environment that encourages and allows people to do their best work.
  • Arts enthusiasm: You’ll love working here if you have an interest in the arts, whether it be personal (“I paint in my spare time,” “I’m taking improv classes,” “My kid plays the trumpet and I always attend her school concerts”) or professional (“I play the oboe in my regional philharmonic orchestra,” “I’m on the board of my local theatre company,” “I used to work in the box office in a performing arts center”).
  • Salesforce expertise: You’re familiar with Salesforce from a previous role, or even better, you’ve built applications on Salesforce or the Force.com platform.
  • Non-profit and/or arts management software experience: You’ve worked at a company that builds box office ticketing systems, fundraising platforms, marketing systems, or other databases or software that our clients are likely to have used.

Other details:
Salary based on experience and ability; compensation includes United Healthcare health insurance and a 401K plan.

We’re based in New York City, and our staff is 50/50 onsite and remote. For this role, you should be willing/able to travel to NYC monthly, and be prepared to work on Eastern time hours, even if you’re in a different time zone.
